Cupid’s 8th Continent 12 Days of Valentines- Day 9

As we all know- nothing sets the mood on Valentine’s Day like an ice cold cup of 8th Continent Soymilk and a sweet supple playlist or mixtape to convey precisely the idea you are trying to express. And let’s face it, singer songwriters always seem to have those jaw-dropping, drool a little bit, wish I was on a date with that person type of traits.

Below, my buddy Cupid and I put together the perfect playlist to compliment you candlesticks and chocolate fondue!

YES! Are you in the mood?!? No?!? Oh, I see, you are one of those proud single people like me who want to enjoy their rebellious fine-by-myself attitude on a Hallmark Holiday. Don’t think we forgot about you! Nod your head and pump your fist to the below playlist, chug your 8th Continent Soymilk without wiping off the soymilk mustache because honestly- what do we care!?
We are not here to impress a significant other. We enjoy our independence! Well, at least until we have a partner. :-/ And until then- listen to the music!!!

Did I miss any songs? What songs do you listen to to celebrate your love? Or celebrate the fact that you don’t have to put up with love?
Leave your suggestions in the Comments section and you may just end up on my Valentine’s Day playlist.
You can also post a song to my Facebook or Tweet me a song!
Come back tomorrow for another day of our Valentine’s Day countdown!

Cupid’s 8th Continent 12 Days of Valentines!- Day 10

Hello there 8th Continent Soymilk Lovers! So, here you are again… back to my blog on day 10- this can only mean one thing. You still don’t know what to get the brighter half of your heart for Valentine’s day.

Don’t you fear! Lopez and Cupid are here! Well, at least me, Lopez, pretending to be Cupid. I should totally buy myself a pair of wings.

Anywho!

Today is an awesome craft that I got from my friends over at Creature Comforts.

You will need:

  • Two pillowcases (light colors will work best)
  • Iron-on Transfer Paper for light colored fabrics. (tee-shirt transfer paper).  Be sure that it is the correct type for your color printer.  You will need two sheets.
  • Color printer
  • Scissors
  • Iron (no steam)

How to:

Download Free valentine iron-on transfer

  1. Print the PDF onto transfer paper.  Cut out carefully around the text, leaving the letters attached with a small amount of the transfer paper (see image one for how I did it).  Be careful not to scratch the surface of your transfer paper while working.  Note: the text will print backwards.  It will read correctly when applied to your pillowcases.
  2. Lay your pillowcases out on a flat surface and line the words and letters up on your pillowcases with the paper-backing facing up (be sure that both sides of your text will line up to read correctly once the pillows are in use).  To give yourself an easy guide for lining up the two sections of text simply fold pillowcases in half lengthwise and insert a pin to mark where the center is.
  3. A trick for ensuring that your text is straight before ironing, is to fold the lower half of your pillowcase up to the center (where you inserted the pin).  The bottom edge is now a nice straight guideline for you to arrange your words along.  I arranged my letters approximately 2 inches away from the outside edge so that when the pillowcase was stuffed the text would still be visible.  Once everything is straight iron your text following directions for use found inside your iron-on transfer paper packaging.
  4. Allow design to cool for 2 minutes before carefully removing the paper backing.  For optimum usability and softness, wash before use.

And how do you give this awesome gift to the one that makes your heart got thumpety thump?

How about this:

I’m picturing vanilla scented candles, rose petals, vegan chocolate fondue, the first mix-tape you ever made each other playing softly in the background… and as that special loved one looks at the bed they see the pillow cases. “U Complete Me” The tears start welling up in the eyes, the fingers tremble, and there is a carton of 8th Continent chocolate soymilk in a silver bucket being chilled. You meet each other’s gazes and then you softly whisper in a Dr. Evil voice. “You complete me.”

And that is how you ruin a moment on Valentine’s Day Lopez style.

Or you could do everything besides the Dr. Evil impersonation and have a fabulously romantic Valentine’s Day!

Keep tuning back in for some more awesome ideas on what to do/make for Valentine’s Day!

And why don’t we go ahead and connect on Facebook and Twitter too? Ok? Deal!

Lopez’s First Time…

It was just one of those days…

I woke up and trudged down to my kitchen. I saw a plethora of amazing cereals that would have been the perfect pick-me-up I needed to get my mind active and provide me with the sustenance and energy that I needed to open my laptop and get some serious work done.

But then I thought better of it; we had dairy milk in the fridge. I wanted to eat my cereal SO bad, but I knew there would be consequences if I coated my bowl full of healthy breakfast food with milk. I had experienced it before:

The gas

The bloating

The thought that would be running through my mind for hours: “Oh man, I should NOT have eaten that.”

So I did what any sane cereal loving person would do- I poured the bowl and turned the faucet to as cold as it could be and proceeded to eat my cereal with water.

No, it was not the same. But the cereal was beckoning to be eaten- and my stomach was growling threats of hunger. I left the house that day, semi-satisfied, and spent a good part of the morning wondering if I would ever be able to indulge in the easiest any-time meal again: cereal.

I knew I wouldn’t be able to pull it off for long. The cereal/water concoction was NOT cutting it. So later that evening, after work, I went to the grocery store to find a replacement breakfast food for my beloved cereal.

At that time in my life I had no idea I was lactose intolerant… I didn’t even know what it meant. For all I knew lactose intolerance could be a contagious flu that you could catch while taking public transportation. (It is not by the way.)

So I wasn’t even aware that there were dairy milk substitutes sitting right next to the dairy milk that I had learned to steer clear of.

I also had other issues with dairy milk. The thought of drinking a liquid from another species… well honestly? It grossed me out!

Walmart wasn’t very busy and if you have gotten to know me at all- online or in RL- you know that I am not necessarily a shy chica.

I went right up to one of the blue-vested associates and asked:

“I can’t drink milk because it hurts my tummy, but I love cereal. What would you suggest to replace cereal altogether because my water and cereal diet plan is not working for me.”

“Have you ever tried soy milk?”

“Ummm… what? Isn’t soy a plant? How can it make milk? Is this a joke? You obviously are mocking me or something… that’s not very nice.”

She motioned for me to follow her.

Little did I know this short, jolly woman of not many words would show me a whole new solution to a problem I didn’t even know I had.

“Most people who are lactose intolerant drink dairy milk substitutes… like soy milk.”

She pointed to the soymilk section and disappeared like some Phantom of the Opera scene.

8th Continent Soymilk was not the first soy milk I ever tried. And maybe that is why I was still hesitant after trying another brand.

But I refused to give up.

I went back again and with each trip I bought a different kind of soymilk:

Fat free

Light

Chocolate

Every brand you could think of and every flavor they had in stock.

The day I tried 8th Continent Soymilk, I knew I had found the match for me. It was like coming across the perfect profile on a dating site I never knew I had signed up for.

Ever since, not only have I been able to eat my cereal, but I have been able to enjoy it.

Thank you blue-vested jolly Walmart woman of not many words- you will never know you gave me the gift of cereal chowing back, and lots of other foods for that matter.

I’d like to think this is the moment my soy-venture began.

The Huffington Post interviews Lil Ol’ Me!!!

If you are not familiar with the Huffington Post- you must be living underneath a rock, that doesn’t have wifi, or any computer/ technology equipment at all for that matter.
It is the most visited blog that exists!

And guess what? They interviewed me! Can you believe it?!? ME!
I was super nervous and it didn’t help that the interviewer, Jeff Rivera, looked like he could have been Thai Digg’s brother. (HOT)

Jeff Rivera

I ended up having a blast! He was a great conversationalist and I tried to do my best to pretend the cameras weren’t even there. So if you think about it, it was kind of like a date; or at least that’s how I like to view it. :-) *Jeff- call me!*

Check out the video below!!!

Here is the behind-the-scenes footage I took while waiting for the interview to begin.

I am coming up to my 5,000 friend mark on Facebook- but I want to stay in touch with all of you!

Lopez being interviewed by the Huffington Post!

When I found out I was being interviewed by the Huffington Post about how I have the coolest job in the world working for 8th Continent Soymilk, I was super stoked to see that other people are finding out what I already know! (Not trying to brag or anything…) And then when I found out I was going to be on camera during this interview with the same guy that interviewed Brooke Burke before me I thought… oh man- OK, how’s my hair?

But to be serious- The Huffington Post is no joke. They have 22 million unique users each month and is the most linked-to blog on the internet. Needless to say I was a bit nervous… but the only emotion that overcame my nervousness was the excitement about being placed in a category of one of the “people to watch” by the Huffington Post.

When asked why I love my job so much and why I always seem so happy I put it simply like this- I have always gotten a kick out of social media and how it works. On top of that- I am promoting my favorite beverage that even if I wasn’t employed by them- I would still be singing their praises. It’s a great tasting beverage with so many health benefits and not only that- they have me going out and voicing a way to live happy, healthy, and a life full of adventure.

We all met at Elaine’s in New York, a local hot spot and legendary celeb spotting café. As some of the crew set up lights and tested sound, I chatted with Jeff Rivera- the hottie with a body that looks a little bit like Thai Diggs. (one of the men that would be in my 8th Continent) If you have been following my adventures while out on the road you may notice that when I get nervous- the best way for me to break the ice is to do something mildly inappropriate. So after scanning Elaine’s with my camera I turned it on the interviewer- Jeff Rivera to see if HE was nervous. Check out the behind the scenes footage below.

So what happens during these interviews is first he sits facing me with the camera pointed in my direction and we chit chat- about my job, my adventures, 8th Continent Soymilk and why I’m such a fan; and someone takes notes of each question he asks. Then I move out of the way and he faces an empty chair and asks the same questions over again with the camera focusing on him so they can get his shots. I never knew that’s how they do it! So I sat there on the sidelines and giggled like a complete dork while I watched him talk to an invisible Lopez.

It was an awesome experience and I am so excited to see the final cut. I will keep all of you updated on when it comes out so you can watch it and feel free to laugh at my stuttering/ rambling… or compliment me on the awesome earrings I wore. :-)

Next stop??? Co-hosting the Broadminded show with the Broadminded chicks in DC on XM/ Sirius radio! To check out the ladies go to http://broadmindedonline.com and I will send out a URL soon of the live recording!
